EDUCATION AT WIMPOLE

Preschool talk on animals

Chicks©H Polge/Wimpole

  • The children are involved in a talk about the difference between living and non-living things.
  • The group is prompted to think about the things that living animals can do (moving, breathing, 5 senses, feeding, going to the toilet, having babies, growing). As each of these is discovered, a child is encouraged to come up and hold a cartoon showing the activity.
  • The children will then see a collection of poultry eggs of different sizes from quail to ostrich.
  • The children are read the story 'Rosie's Chicks' and see slides of hatching chicks.
  • A mammal, usually either a rabbit or a lamb is brought in for the children to meet, its fur is contrasted with the chicken’s feathers.
