This session involves the use of puppets and a Wimpole version of the traditional tale of the Little Red Hen.

·        The aim of the session is to explain the farming-year in a story telling genre, which is intended to be more accessible and fun for small children.

·        During the session the puppets explain historic farming techniques with the aid of farm artifacts. These include ploughing, sowing, growing, harvest and milling of the wheat crop.

·        Artifacts such as a seedlip, flails, winnowing basket and a quern are demonstrated to the children.

·        Modern farming methods are discussed at the end of the session with the aid of a model combine-harvester.

·        Time permitting; children may have the opportunity to mill flour with the hand quern.
