Wimpole Estate Meat
Rare Breeds Survival Trust

The RBST
produces a watchlist of
UK
animal breeds monitors the progress of each breed’s population and
genetic quality. At Wimpole we are part of this conservation strategy by
keeping traditional breeds on our parkland in harmony with nature as
much as possible.
Home farm
shows visitors livestock breeds that used to graze our countryside.
Currently we have five rare cattle breeds, four rare
pig breeds and six rare sheep breeds. Traditional breeds
became rare due to their slow growth or small numbers of offspring.
However we believe that with correct management slower growth brings
more succulent, better flavoured meat.
