Beef Steak fungus Fistulina hepatica is another edible species that looks exactly like beef even to the red droplets of spores that look like blood, however it certainly does not taste like beef.  One amazing fact about this fungi is that it causes red rot and in the early stages gives rise to brown oak, a very valuable staining that quadruples the value of that timber.
