There will be 'have a go' scything sessions, but these will have to be under guidance as the scythe is extremely sharp.  Children will not be allowed to use the scythes unless they are already experienced.

Simon Fairlie will be bringing some equipment for sale: blades, snaths (handles) peening and honing equipment, which is also available from his web page www.thescytheshop.co.uk  The West country Scythe Festival takes place on 15 June, details available on the above website.

Saturday 21 June 
For those competitors who wish to come on Saturday, there will be a chance to hone your skills before competing and also take part in team cutting of the front lawn.

Hopefully we will also be erecting a hayrick if we have managed to get some dry weather in the preceding week.

1pm for novices followed by the more experienced.  Bring your own equipment
There will be a chance to practice in the morning and pick up tips.

  • Experienced 5m x 5m square of grass

  • Novice 2.5m x 2.5m square of grass

Camping for competitors is available in one of the fields.  Spartan would be a good description.
